Elementary School Sidewalk Construction Projects
Perry Township and the Worthington School District are pleased to announce the approval of funding for future construction projects at the Brookside and Worthington Hills Elementary schools with an emphasis on student safety.
Responding to concerns voiced by Perry Township residents, Road Superintendent Ian Warren approached the Franklin County Engineer’s Office last year for assistance in developing a plan to extend walkways for students and to secure funding for the safety initiatives. Through a collaborative effort between Perry Township, Worthington Schools, and the Franklin County Engineer’s office, a viable site plan was created. The group spent several weeks gathering data and information needed to submit an application for funding through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program.
We were recently notified that Brookside Elementary and Worthington Hills Elementary have been selected as recipients of the Safe Routes to School funding. Construction is projected to begin - at the earliest - in Spring of 2025.
Facility Management Director, Tim Gehring remarked, “On behalf of the Worthington School District, I am proud of our partnership with Perry Township and the Safe Routes to School program. What a great opportunity to use grant funding to work on a project that benefits students and residents alike.”
We are grateful to Franklin County Engineer, Cornell Robertson, and his staff for their assistance with planning and obtaining the necessary funding for the projects. Road Superintendent Warren underscored the efforts of Ms. Ronni Nimps, Complete Street Coordinator, of the Franklin County Engineer’s Office by saying, “Ms. Nimps went above and beyond in coordinating and preparing the application on behalf of the Worthington School District and Perry Township.
The Perry Board of Township Trustees and the Worthington School District wish to give special thanks to the following people for their hard work and contributions to this important project:
