Golf Carts in Worthington Hills for 4th of July Weekend

A message from Chief Cesaro for the use of golf carts during the 4th of July weekend.......

Golf Cart Regulations for the 4th of July weekend

The Perry Township Police Department has been working closely with the Worthington Hills Civic Association to address the safety and liability concerns associated with the operation of golf carts during this year's 4th of July weekend. We discussed specifically the rental of non-street legal golf carts. Here are the regulations for the use of golf carts. You can operate your non-street legal golf carts starting Friday July 2nd after 12:00 p.m. and through Monday July 5th 12:00 p.m. Street legal, inspected golf carts can be used at any time .

Residents who own, or choose to rent, lease or borrow golf carts for use on public roadways, must ensure that they are operating the vehicle in a safe manner. Only licensed drivers can operate a golf cart and you must have insurance. If you are stopped by the police, you will  be required to produce your driver's license and show proof of insurance. Anyone operating a golf cart must comply with all applicable laws. No golf cart can have more passengers than the manufacturers designed seating capacity (2 seats, 4 seats, 6 seats). If your rented golf cart does not have head lights  you are prohibited from operating on the roadway after dusk. If you do not have a windshield and a windshield wiper, you are prohibited from operating in rain or inclement weather. If you are operating a golf cart, you are required to stop at all STOP signs. Slowing down does not constitute a stop!

Allowing unlicensed drivers to drive golf carts on roadways or public areas will result in a citation being issued to both the unlicensed driver and the party responsible for the golf cart, and the vehicle will be impounded.

During this year's 4th of July weekend, we are attempting to bring some normalcy to the holiday through the use of golf carts. However, our primary goal is to ensure the safety of all residents and guests, and by following a few simple guide lines, residents will continue to enjoy a fun and safe July 4th weekend. We thank you for your support.
