Posted on: December 28, 2017[ARCHIVED] Frigid Cold Weather is here...Follow these safety tips from Chief Petrozzi...

- Check on Your Neighbors. With the snow and extreme cold, check on your neighbors and family members - especially those who are older or have functional needs - to ensure that they are OK and have the resources to stay safe and warm. Offer to pick up food and supplies at the store for them. Your communication plan might include exchanging phone numbers.
- If you must go outside, wear several layers of loose-fitting warm clothing, a winter coat or jacket, and mittens or gloves. Wear a hat and cover your mouth with a scarf to reduce heat loss.
- Make a Family Communications Plan. Your family may not be together when a winter storm hits, so it's important to know how you will contact each other and how/where you will reconnect.
- Make an Emergency Supplies Kit for the Home and Vehicle. Have enough water, food and supplies for at least three days of self-sufficiency. Visit www.weathersafety.ohio.gov for disaster supply checklists
- Listen to local news stations or a NOAA Weather Radio for current weather conditions, winter storm warnings and advisories.
- Stay indoors during the storm.
- Drive only if it's necessary. Know road conditions before heading out. Visit ODOT's www.ohgo.com.
