The snowfall earlier this week has slowed leaf collection. Cold temperatures and snow make it difficult for the leaf collection equipment to operate. As the leaf boxes freeze, the top vents ice over which cuts off the airflow needed to suck up leaves.
The Road Crew is still collecting leaves where we can see them, but progress will remain limited until temperatures rise and snow melts. As soon as the temperature rises above freezing, the Road Crew will begin the final round through the township.
Due to the forecasting showing more snow this month, the Road Department cannot extend leaf collection any past the final round. The Road Crew uses the same trucks for leaf collection and snow plowing and must prepare all the trucks for winter.
Residents can follow the Road Crew’s progress on the Township website on the Fall Leaf Collection page: https://www.perrytwp.org/2277/Fall-Leaf-Collection. Progress updates during the final round will include a list of streets completed.
Please remember that leaves must be within 6 ft of the road BUT NOT in the road. Our collection equipment cannot reach beyond 6 ft and leaves outside of that area will NOT be picked up. Please do not pile leaves around vehicles, fire hydrants, signposts, mailboxes, or other objects, to ensure safe and efficient collection.
